Collapsible Tabs

Overall Objective: Ensure family physicians have a strong voice in healthcare decision-making, protecting their role and advocating for systems that support whole-person, community-based care.

Overall Objective: Cultivate a strong, inclusive professional community where family physicians feel connected, supported, and proud to be part of something larger than themselves.

Overall Objective: Build and support a diverse pipeline of future family physicians while creating conditions that allow current FPs to remain engaged, effective, and fulfilled in their work.

Overall Objective: Support family physicians in delivering high quality care by reducing administrative and systemic burdens, improving workflows, and increasing access to practical resources.

Overall Objective: Identify and promote technologies, models, and tools that enhance care delivery, reduce complexity, and help family physicians thrive in a changing healthcare landscape.

Overall Objective: Ensure IAFP remains a resilient, well-governed, and connected organization — grounded in strong operations, healthy finances, effective leadership, and alignment with state and national partners.

Why This Matters: Family physicians care for patients across every age, setting, and circumstance, yet the work of providing that care has become increasingly complex. Growing administrative demands, fragmented systems, and shifting expectations threaten to erode the joy and purpose that brought many to family medicine. This plan matters because it positions IAFP to lead boldly on behalf of family physicians advocating for reform, amplifying their voice, and equipping them with tools and connections that make practice sustainable. The guiding principle, themes and strategies aim for the same goal: ensuring that IAFP is not only standing up for family physicians but standing with them as a trusted partner in a changing healthcare landscape.

What Success Looks Like in Three Years: Family physicians across Illinois will experience a stronger sense of support, clarity, and connection. IAFP will be recognized as the organization that champions family physicians — visibly, consistently, and transparently. The practice environment will be more navigable, innovation more practical, and collaboration with payers, systems, and state partners more constructive. Members will see how advocacy in connection with other activities translates into real progress: less administrative burden, more professional respect, and a renewed sense of belonging in their work. The Academy will operate with openness and accountability, communicating results clearly and celebrating the achievements of family physicians who continue to define the heart of Illinois healthcare.
